Description:

Creating Opportunities for Young People

Rio Ferdinand Foundation (RFF) engages young people in sports, arts and media activities in some of the UKs most deprived communities. Our team of talented youth workers support young people through a variety of personal development programmes and provide pathways to achievement

Providing Pathways to Achievement

Rio Ferdinand set up his Foundation in 2012 so that he could have a closer relationship with his charitable work and tackle social issues important to him. Recognising that sports, media and the creative arts are great motivating factors for young people, RFF utilise those mediums and Rio’s connections within those industries, to provide a pathway for youth development.

Since then, we have made it our mission to inspire young people and give them the tools they need to tap into their talents and reach their potential. Our vision is to help create confident and skilled young people who are able to build a brighter future for themselves and their communities.

Our work is guided by the belief that with the right support, role models, and opportunities, young people can achieve great things. To this end, our work unites the efforts of a host of partners, who share our vision, offering a range of education and employment pathways for our young people.

Each young persons’ journey with us is as unique as they are and based on their individual skills and motivations. The infographic below illustrates our approach to working with young people developed through years of practical experience and sector research.

Raising Aspirations to Achieve

Since starting in 2012, RFF have gone deep into the heart of deprived communities to work with young people on a range of exciting and innovative programmes. From grass-roots sports with graduated training pathways growing the next generation of coaches, to digital media platforms and creative arts projects which give young participants the opportunity to express themselves, our programmes are designed to build young people’s confidence and raise their aspirations to achieve.

Geographically, in the UK we have built cornerstone projects across London, Salford, and Manchester and have emerging programmes of work in Doncaster and Belfast. We have also worked collaboratively on programmes in South Africa in Cape Town and Durban.

All of our programmes are supported by partnerships with youth and community groups, local authorities, police and youth justice teams, social services and homeless groups, like-minded charities, educational establishments, grant-makers, funders and philanthropists as well as private sector companies and brands.

Key partnerships now include Big Lottery Fund, Comic Relief, Sport England and BT Group plc. Below is a snapshot of some of the programmes these partners have made possible.

Bringing People together to Build A Brighter Future
